| Yesterday, a 21-year-old man from the Wilkes-Barre area allegedly mugged and injured an 83-year-old woman. The young man is charged with robbery, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
The
Citizens' Voice reports that the man was already on bail in connection with previous accusations that he had committed theft - stealing from his mother - to support his heroin habit; he has reportedly tried repeatedly during the last three years to kick his habit through drug rehabilitation programs, without lasting success.
It is difficult for most people to imagine what could move a young man, someone who has his whole life before him, to victimize an elderly woman in this way. But anyone who has a close, personal relationship with drug addiction - either because they are addicted themselves, or because they love someone who is addicted - knows that this kind of callous behavior is all too common among addicts.
In fact, people involved with Wilkes-Barre drug crimes are often also mixed up with violent crimes and other serious criminal offenses, increasing the possibility that they will face serious legal penalties. Drug addicted criminals, perhaps more than anyone, need a solid, experienced
Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania drug lawyer who can provide them with an aggressive, effective criminal defense.
