  Theft of Volunteer Firefighter Funds
Posted By Rogan Law

Theft involves the unlawful taking of another's property and is one of the highest invasions of property rights. In some cases, a person you know and trust can take what is rightfully yours without any warning or indication. The most vulnerable victims of theft crimes are often employers who trust their employees to carry out their jobs honestly. Employees handle large sums of money and products that are vital to the flow of business and when that trust is broken through theft the legal consequences are often severe.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that the treasurer of a local Volunteer Firefighter Relief fund stole around $9,000 from the fund during 2008 and 2009. The treasurer allegedly wrote checks to his secretary and cashed them after she endorsed them. The funds were never accounted for and there is no record of equipment purchased for the firefighters.

Whether in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazelton, Honesdale, Tunkhannock, Stroudsburg, or anywhere in NEPA, the first step in securing a fair trial is to contact a NEPA criminal lawyer. A Scranton defense lawyer will protect your legal rights!

White Collar Crimes.

White collar crimes are fairly common occurrences throughout Pennsylvania, and federal investigative agencies are known for being extremely thorough when obtaining information and evidence related to these types of activities. Fraud, embezzlement, money laundering, and false identification are just a few of the white collar crimes that attract the attention of federal agencies like the FBI and the IRS.

Due to the scrupulous methods of investigation employed by these agencies, it takes an experienced and committed criminal defense attorney to be on the lookout for any errors made by investigators.   Scranton Fraud Charges
Posted By Patrick M. Rogan
In the coming months, we may see a new category of Scranton fraud charges emerge.

This past September, Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) introduced a bill - S. 1551, The Liability for Aiding and Abetting Securities Violations Act of 2009 - that amends the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 to make third parties to securities fraud lawsuits responsible to investors.

Under current legislation, in many cases, securities firms can claim that they are not responsible for fraudulently misleading investors because third parties make the actual investments.  Third parties man claim they are not responsible to investors because they never communicate directly with those investors.  In effect, no one is responsible to investors, even when investors have been deliberately mislead.  Specter's bill would change that, closing the loophole to give investors more power and control.

You can track the bill's progress at Open Congress.

If you are facing Scranton fraud charges, then you need a Scranton criminal defense attorney experienced with defending against Scranton white collar crime charges and against federal white collar crime charges.  An effective Scranton criminal defense lawyer can help to navigate the criminal justice system in a way that protects your rights and your freedoms.

For help with your Scranton fraud charges, contact Rogan Law today.
